PhD Geology or Doctor of Philosophy in Geology is a doctoral level course of 3 years duration which is divided into six semester of six month each. PhD Geology is a research oriented course which is designed for students who are interested in conducting research in geoscience related subjects. Geology includes subjects like mineralogy, paleontology, structural geology, geomorphology, etc. for research studies. Let us tell that the students engaged in the study of Geology i.e. geology are known as Geologists.
The eligibility criteria for pursuing this course candidate must have complete their Master’s degree in the areas such as Geology/ Applied Geology/ Earth Science/ Marine Geology from any recognized university with 55% aggregate marks(50% marks for SC/ ST/ OBC category candidates).
Admission to the course is based on merit obtained by candidates at master’s level. Some government institutes also conduct entrance exam for providing admission.
