SAURASHTRA UNIVERSITY GUJARAT
The Saurashtra University was created on a rigorous demand, for a separate university out of Gujarat University (Ahmedabad), from the eminent educationists and freedom fighters of the Saurashtra region. The demand was more prominent after the creation of Gujarat state on May 1, 1961. The Saurashtra University Act was passed by the Legislative Assembly of Gujarat in the year 1965(Gujarat Act No. 39 of 1965). Saurashtra University, established on 23rd May, 1967, having two headquarters in the initial stage i.e. Rajkot and Bhavnagar. After the incorporation of the Bhavnagar University, Rajkot became the sole headquarters of the Saurashtra University. The campus of the University is spread over 363 acres of land. The present jurisdiction of the University includes Amreli, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Surendranagar, and Morbi districts. It has 29 Post Graduate Departments on its campus and 238 affiliated colleges.

About SAURASHTRA UNIVERSITY GUJARAT
The University has important seats of learning spreading knowledge in the respective fields i.e. Nehru Chair, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Chair, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chair, Swami Dayanand Saraswati Chair, Gulabdas Broker Chair, etc. The University runs a centre of learning and research in the name of Shri Zaverchand Meghani i.e. Meghani Lok Sahitya Kendra. The University in collaboration with Commissionerate of Industries, Government of Gujarat, and Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has started National Facility for Drugs Discovery (NFDD) in the year 2009. The NFDD is a state of art centre of research and innovation. Later in the year 2014, the NFDD was transformed into Centre of Excellence (COE). COE is actively involved in generating funds from industrial consultancy.
The Saurashtra University is vibrant in terms of organising youth festivals, cultural programmes, job fairs, e-Tab distribution fairs, Ranji Trophy tournament, Pro Kabaddi League, Saurashtra Premier League (SPL), inter university championships, etc. The Saurashtra University students are performing well in various events at state and national levels.
The Saurashtra University has the pride to be the first ‘A’ Grade accredited Conventional State University by the NAAC in the state of Gujarat in the year 2014. The Saurashtra University is one of the pioneering universities in Gujarat going voluntarily for NAAC accreditation DURING very initial stage of NAAC in the year 2001. The University’s first cycle rating was 4 Star in February 2002. Subsequently, the University was re-accredited (2nd Cycle) with ‘B’ Grade having CGPA of 2.97 in March 2009. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the University is functional since 2004 as per the recommendations of NAAC. Nevertheless, as per the Peer Team Report of NAAC 2009, the Saurashtra University was the first University in the country to appoint a Full-time Coordinator.
The Saurashtra University has a prospective plan to be the leader in the field of higher education. The University is determined to establish state of art research laboratories in the area of applied and pure sciences. It will be a prime focus for the University to rank in top fifty Universities of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

Creation And Compilation of Knowledge With a view to initiating some more healthy practices on the campus, hereby is put for the scheme namely, "Creation and Compilation of Knowledge". University being a higher body of education and hence it is supposed to play a leading role in the creation and compilation of knowledge lying scattered either in our regional languages. Moreover, it needs to be put in the languages know by the whole nation or the world. Our University can take lead in knowledge generation by taking up one or more of the following projects and do a great service to our region, nation and humanity.
- Preparation of Encyclopaedia.
- Preparation of Thesaurus.
- Preparation of Compendium.
- Preparation of Glossary.
- Preparation of Dictionary of Gujarati cognate with Sanskrit.
- Preparation of Dictionary of Critical Terms (Eng. To Gujarati & vice versa)
- Preparation of Dictionary of Critical terms for Social Sciences.
- Preparation of Dictionary of Legal Terms.
- Preparation of Dictionary of Terms for Sciences.
Industry Interaction
- Saurashtra University, Rajkot has formed its Industry Institution Interaction Cell (IIIC) in accordance with NAAC guidelines
- The Cell would aim at exploring the possibilities of facilitating interaction betweem Industry and the University, along with finding out the ways mutually beneficial to both.
- Its first meeting was held on 24 Dec, 2005 in which 86 industrialists took part. Noted economist Shri Jaynarayan Vyas delivered the key note address and outlined the future course of action
Earn While Learn
- The Saurashtra University has implemented the Earn While Learn Scheme to support poor and needy students pursuing their studies on the University campus.
- Under the scheme, the University aims at providing accomodation, books and food for students coming from poor families free of charge. The university will bear this burden.
- This is a unique scheme in the entire site for poor students. A seperate hostel building is being constructed for the students selected under this scheme.
- Renowned donor Shri Dipchandbhai Gardi has donated for this building.
Project Gyan Yatra
- With a view to initiating some more healthy practices on the campus, hereby is put the scheme namely,"Project Gyan Yatra".
- In this Project, the University will send its teachers to the institutions of excellence in India of international standards. For learning about best practices in teaching and research so that they can be established or started in the University with modifications. For example for science and technology, Jadavpur University; Physics, Poona Univrsity, Sciences, University of Hyderabad; Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University; for various New Centres (JNU, Jadavpur, Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore among others).
- Visits by the faculties of our University can be organized and our faculties stay in these Institutions for a week or so and observe, study, interact with faculties and researchers there.
- Such visits can be organized in the months of February or March or even later, depending on the mutual convenience of the Universities.
Student Welfare Scheme
- Insurance Scheme 1,00,000/- Rs. accidental insurance scheme has been launched by the Univesity for students who are registered with affiliated colleges and P.G. Departments.

Placement Records & Support
The University owns a well-established Training & Placement Cell. The goal of the Training & Placement Cell is to provide students with a platform for using their potential to gain valuable experience by working in the organization; it also acts as an interface between various organizations seeking talented candidates in various disciplines. The Training & Placement Cell acts as a bridge between the students & reputed industries such as Reliance Industries Limited, Piramal Healthcare, Avenue Supermarts Limited (D-Mart), Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, etc. by keeping in mind, the number of students to be absorbed in the various industries. The Training & Placement Cell also imparts contact between the institution & industry to carry out the placement activities of the students.
Placement Activities & Job Fairs
The University is making efforts continuously by regularly inviting various reputed industries from the different sectors for the campus placements. Every year, many industries are coming to the University Departments for campus interviews. Various Departments of the University arrange central placement activity through the Training & Placement Cell for the students of the entire Saurashtra region. The University is also in the touch with the various industries to arrange regular placement activities at their respective units for the betterment of students’ future. The University also arranges “Mega Placement Fairs” for the entire region.
Helping the Students in Improvising their Skills:
The Training & Placement Cell regularly arranges Resume Evaluation Process sessions for the final semester students of the various departments for the most effective resume preparation.
