At Somaiya Vidyavihar, we want to create an education institution that is proudly Indian, world class in research and universal in the reach of ideas. Somaiya Vidyavihar comprises 34 allied institutions, with more than 39,000 students and 1,500 faculty. These educational institutes are spread across two widespread main campuses in Vidyavihar and Ayurvihar in Sion, both located in the heart of Mumbai. A number of smaller campuses across rural Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are also managed by the Trust. The Somaiya educational institutions offer a wide range of programs at the undergraduate, Post-Graduate, and Doctoral levels. The Somaiya Vidyavihar campus also offers vocational programs, in addition to junior colleges and schools in English, Gujarati, and Marathi medium from pre-primary level onwards.

He later founded the Girivanvasi Pragati Mandal, The K J Somaiya Medical Trust, Girivanvasi Education Trust and sister institutions to make great citizens of India and the World. In the words of Swami Vivekananda, “We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.” We have now grown into a multi-disciplinary and multi-campus education institution with over 1500 faculty, and 39000+ students.

Scholarship Details
It is said, behind every successful man stands a wise, understanding and encouraging woman. Smt Sakarbai Somaiya was a pillar and a strong support system for her husband, Somaiya Vidyavihar's founder, Pujya K J Somaiya. She truly materialised the Sanskrit verse 'atithi devo bhava' and anyone that visited their home was treated as God. Her devotion to serve was not restricted to guests alone, she provided food and unconditional care and fulfilled the needs of the underprivileged. She rightfully earned the name 'Annapoorna'.
The Somaiya need based scholarship is a program that sponsors students that lack financial support to complete their education and have no access to other government scholarships’ & loans. Priority will be given to candidates with a marked socio-economic disadvantage. Once the scholarship is awarded it will continue till the end of the course.
Eligibility Criteria -
- Candidate must demonstrate proven financial need and be able to provide evidence of their financial accounts.
- Candidates must be asked to submit additional documents during application or interview process.
- Candidate should be student of somaiya vidyavihar / Ayurvihar and could be having limited access to other need-based scholarships & loans.
Key Achievements
Shri K.J. Somaiya was warm and endearing. Stately in appearance, immaculately dressed, generally in spotless white hand spun khadi, he exuded a picture of resourcefulness and restraint. He was compassionate and reached out to those in suffering. In all he did, Karamshibhai brought a sense of love and humanism, qualities imbibed in his early youth from the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. He believed in the ancient Sanskrit saying (na manushit paro dharmah). "There is no religion greater than Man".
